Education
Children living in Lyman and Lyman Lake are under the educational jurisdiction of District Five Schools, which is comprised of six different elementary schools, two intermediate schools, two middle schools, and three high schools. There are also a number of higher educational institutions in the area, such as Converse College, Spatanburg Methodist College, Spatanburg Technical College, the University of South Carolina Upstate, and Wofford College.

Lyman Lake is one of the main attractions of Lyman. The lake is particularly known for its beauty, great fishing, boating and real estate. The lake is a popular spot for locals all across the South to vacation.
Other recreational opportunities arise for the residents of Lyman through Spartanburg County. The county’s athletics department offers a variety of intramural sports for adults and children alike. There are over twenty parks in the surrounding areas of Lyman. Other recreational programs include summer camps, senior citizen programs, and four different recreational centers.
